The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) recently conducted an in-depth study on seaplane operations as part of a broader initiative to strengthen aviation safety standards and align with Thailand’s “IGNITE THAILAND” vision. As a key regulatory body, CAAT aims to position Thailand as a regional center for aviation and tourism, focusing on enhancing aviation safety.
In recognition of the increasing significance of seaplane operations, CAAT’s Flight Operations Standards Department (OPS) organized a specialized training program and a study visit in collaboration with the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA). This initiative aimed to gather essential technical information and insights to aid in the creation of safety-compliant operational guidelines, technical manuals, and data collection practices crucial for maintaining international standards.
The study visits featured expert-led sessions on regulatory oversight and inspection techniques, delivered by experienced personnel from airlines operating seaplanes in the Maldives. Participants also engaged in knowledge-sharing sessions with MCAA officials, facilitating discussions on regulatory frameworks and operational best practices. Field studies provided direct exposure to live seaplane operations, enabling CAAT personnel to observe safety protocols in action and assess potential improvements applicable to Thailand’s regulatory environment. The outcomes of this study will play a pivotal role in the development of customized laws and regulations tailored to seaplane activities within Thailand. Beyond regulatory advancements, the initiative will contribute to greater confidence among international tourists, strengthening Thailand’s reputation for aviation safety and security.
This study visit represents a significant stride in Thailand’s journey to becoming a regional aviation and tourism hub. CAAT remains committed to supporting the government’s ambitious objectives, leveraging international collaboration and expertise to further Thailand’s position as a leader in aviation safety and sustainable tourism within the Asia-Pacific region.
